Well what can we say? this baby really was a gift from the Gods!
Some things in life are just meant to be and Waldwiese Carpe Diem was just one of those. I literally cannot thank Lois & Claire Richter enough for giving me the amazing opportunity to be guardian to one of their most precious babies, it means the world to both me and Gabriella. The arrival of Rhea changed our lives in so many positive ways, she fitted right in with Kodi from the moment she arrived and the two have been thick as thieves ever since.
I only hope that over the years we do the Waldwiese name justice (we certainly have a lot to live up to!) and do both Lois, Claire and MeeMo proud xx
In myth, Rhea was the Queen of heaven and a goddess of female fertility, motherhood, and generation.
Rhea settled in immediately and it felt like she had always been a part of our family. She commenced obedience and gundog training upon arrival then followed that with some beginners agility and trick dog work. To date she has earned herself three trickdog titles but we have yet to begin work on her fourth as it is something we only do for fun when time permits but she really does love it!
Rhea won 4 Baby of Breeds in Australia and 4 Reserves before heading over to the UK. Rhea then hit the UK show rings during June 2012 and dived straight in with her first show being a Championship show and the result was her winning the Minor Puppy Bitch class under Judge Mr Frank Whyte, qualifying her for CRUFTS 2013 at her first show! Rhea then went on to qualified for CRUFTS at 8 out of the 10 Championship Shows where she has attended her class and at her very last Championship Show Puppy Class she was awarded a 1st in Puppy Bitch under breed specialist and world renowned Judge Mrs Patsy Hollings (Gunalt), I could not have wished for a better end to her puppy career!
In the open show rings, as a puppy, Rhea gained a puppy group 3 placement and as a youngster at under 20mths she took her first Best of Breed at an open show and followed it with a Best in Show at our local comp show. Since then we have attended shows sparingly due to other commitments but she has gone on to continue to qualify for CRUFTS and place 3rd there, she has represented the longhaired variety well.
In the agility rings, Rhea achieved her first clear round with 2nd Place too! Her win came after just about 10-12 lessons so most of her experience is simply gained in the rings. Since the beginning of 2014, there hasn’t been much time for agility as Rhea had her first litter and we have gone on to concentrate on bringing her daughters training on in other spheres, I also find it hard visiting agility shows now that my boy Kodi, who loved them so much, can no longer compete.
Rhea has also dabbled in obedience, taking part in a few competitions (with my daughter Gabriella) with very little training but a lovely attitude and willingness to please seeing her have a few great days out and leave a lovely impression behind for others to see of her breed.
With regards to fieldwork, Rhea began training with Trevor Rigby in 2013 and he was impressed with her first session, after just 10 lessons she successfully proved her skills on a days rough shooting and since then she has gone on to work on our local shoot beating. I am so very proud of all that this lovely girl has achieved with us.
Last but not least, in 2014 Rhea commenced Schweisshund training, something we can only train for as and when time permits but on her very first track she showed natural talent which I’ve not doubt comes from her Tracking Champion mum. Other commitments have meant I haven’t been able to do further blood tracking as I had hoped but perhaps in the future, we can return to it.
Rhea is the most laid back, sunny character that you could wish to meet, she wiggles everywhere with her tail lashing behind her and a cheeky expression on her face. She adores Kodi and they are such a lovely couple together, they have a very balanced and kind relationship, its a pleasure to watch. Rhea also has a wonderful relationship with her daughters and is always fit to burst with excitement when she sees her! Such a special girl who loves nothing more than cuddling up on the sofa for a long night of movies with one ear open for the biscuit tin and a back leg up for a tummy rub!
